Traditionally, servers were large and expensive machines with more advanced hardware than what was found in a typical computer. Nowadays, even consumer PCs come with 64-bit processors, gigabytes of RAM and hundreds of gigabytes of storage. A cheap PC can easily fulfill the role of a server, but if you want a machine that can perform reliably, then there are some issues that you should be aware of.
