Power Supplies
Updated on August 24, 2007
Although they contain no moving parts, power supplies are among the components that fail most often in servers. For critical servers, you should invest in a redundant power supply or simply keep a spare one handy.
It is a good idea to connect your server to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). It is also a good idea to install UPS monitoring software on your server so it can do a graceful shutdown in the event of an extended outage. See networkupstools.org for a popular solution.
